As the first store to have discovered & imported GRAPAT toys to Cyprus, we as Meraki Moraki decided to share some of the magic behind this brand.
Grapat is a brand that celebrates the autonomy & imagination of your child.
Being present, and offering daily objects can unlock a world of play. They have expanded on the concept by creating enticing sets & objects made from wood, which would last generations inviting children into a universe of OPEN ENDED FREE PLAY.
Handpainted and made in a european factory these toys are unmatched and toys children cannot get bored of, because every single time, they will present a new desire and game to be unlocked.
Bowl 5.5 cm diameter and ball 4.5 cm diameter
Recommended for 0+ months.
Bowls measure 6 diameter and 3cm in height. Grapat toys are hand made using natural wood and water based stain. Colours and wood grains vary as does life itself. Over time wood can wear with play.
The Spanish word grapat means "handful" and its creators want every child to have a free and respectful upbringing filled with open-ended playtimes free of expectations and judgments. The pieces should invite and stimulate your own true sense of creativity. For this, they offer play material without instructions and restrictions. As parents, it is our duty to protect this sacred moment without interfering. We just observe and are present: "Be free, play openly!"
Over time, the wood will develop fine dents and scars and this means it has served its purpose, providing hours of free and open-ended play for children, and we really appreciate it. The "imperfection" of wood makes each piece unique - just like us humans!
Each piece is hand painted; the dyes are water-based and non-toxic.
some pieces may lose color when they come in contact with saliva, but that's perfectly fine as all colors are 100% safe and non-toxic. The elements are finished with vegetable waxes and oils. The oils may have a strong aroma at first, but will mellow over time. Their packaging is completely plastic-free.
Made in Spain
It contains 12 bowls and 6 balls in the colors of the rainbow.
It includes textile bag with GOT Certificate fabric.
This material allows for the development of a logical-mathematical thinking by classifying, grouping and matching elements though colors and/or shapes.
For the youngest children: The bowl can be used as a lid, to make the balls inside appear and disappear as the classic game of “peekaboo”. Also favours concepts such as fill in, empty or slip and slide.
Schematic Play: This toy will appeal to children demonstrating the positioning schema. This toy focusses on shapes and positioning them to make a scene.
More information:
Six coloured balls with twelve bowls that surround and contain them; like six petals of a flower or half a dozen eggs. In a decimal world, talking about six may seem strange, but let's think about the 12 months of the year, for example.
If we place a bowl in the centre and the others around it, we will see that exactly six fit! This happens with all circles of the same diameter.
Why This Toy?
It's no surprise that children love round shapes. Balls are a precision item that can get wild when they fall and roll into hidden places, but become calm and contained inside the bowls. You can make logical connections between each ball in the bowl of its color or play "peek-a-boo" using the bowl as a lid. These materials can be as fun as they are eye-catching!
They encourage play becuase:
When children approach them, they see beyond the colours, they touch the texture of the wood, the rounded edges, the perfect spheres... Their hands “see” the quality of a material that shines not for its colours but for its warmth and naturalness. They offer great versatility in play and are also toys produced following traditional processes and with sustainable, local and non-toxic materials.
